Merry Christmas

In studying Genesis over the last few weeks the theme that has stood out to me is God’s Omniscience and Sovereignty. When Adam and Eve ate the fruit from the forbidden tree and brought sin into this world, hope must have been hard to cling to. God’s promise of redemption likely started to feel as if it would never happen as the generations of God’s people came and went and they lived up to 9 times longer than we do today. For about 1,600 years God’s people waited for their savior to be born.

As the days draw nearer to Christmas and some of us prepare for the craziness and joy of kids and family, others of us feel the bleakness and even loneliness of this year’s isolation. Just as the first generations waited for Jesus’ birth with a patience and hope that only can come from the Holy Spirit, we too can wait for Jesus’ return with patience and hope. The hardships and suffering we see today in our own lives, our friends lives, the lives of our fellow Americans, and those around the world, are not ignored by God. The same Omniscient God of Genesis who saw each person and intervened in their stories, the same Sovereign God that sent His Son to be born as a baby to save us from our sin and depravity, He is omniscient and sovereign over what we are living through today. God sees the brokenness of the world, He sees the fear and the conflict of His people, He sees the pain of your family and friends and He sees you. He sees you and He seeks you.

This Christmas don’t be distracted. Look past the negatives. Look past the pain, the loneliness, and the hardships, and focus on what good God has done in your life and the lives of your clients this year. Have you allowed room for the Holy Spirit to focus your heart on Jesus’ redemption and love shown to us by our Omniscient and Sovereign Father God? Spend some time this Christmas in thankfulness for God’s loving, all-knowing, all-powerful provision for us through His son Jesus Christ.
