Are You Attentive to Your Master?

I just got back from training my puppy how to walk, well run, with me. She likes to grab the leash and play. She goes way off the sidewalk, stops whenever she wants and runs right in front of me. It is definitely an adventure!
Our walk today did make me think about our relationship with God. How attentively my puppy looks at me, her master, the more she knows where to go. As she is learning how to walk and how to run she has to look at me a lot, I have to call her name, I have to use the training collar and treats so that I will get her attention and she will look at me.
How often are we looking to our master? How often are we attentively looking up to determine “what move does God want us to make next”? I know I want to be attentive to our master and be intentional in every step that He is leading me to next.
Have you ever considered where you are in the training process? Are you still the new believer just like the puppy that goes all over the place and tries to pull God along on your own path? Or are you more like a mature dog that not only looks up to determine the direction God is leading but also knows which way your master is leading by something as simple as listening to the footsteps behind her.
I want to be attentive to my master. How attentive are you? What is God calling you to do today? What might He be guiding you to that you are just not noticing? What might He be leading you to that you are just not ready to go there yet?
My advice, spend time in prayer. Look up at your master and listen to the direction He is giving you. He will lead you in which step to take.
Good luck my friend. Stay attentive.
Psalms 121 :1-2 (NIV)
"I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth".
